101. Senior Thesis Final Model and Turnaround

If you guys want to see process work, please click PART ONE or PART TWO. It will show you the process of how I got to where I was. ^^ And without further ado, here is the project that's been kicking my but for the past five months! Some turnarounds also. Forgive my cinematography skills. :) I'll try to upload a movie of the rest of the models later!

YOUTUBE TURNAROUNDS <--- also includes a look at my classmates' models.

Much love,
Dou

91. Senior Capstone Advanced Development

More advanced level of supplemental study. Now these are becoming a little more clear in terms of more resembling a vehicle than say the Rorschach or Photoshop studies. The next batch will be a little more mechanical to resemble more true automotive specifications.

89. Senior Sketch Blitz 2 (Lancia Progress)

These are the sketches from my second sketch blitz. Now these were very fun just because many of them are proportionately very odd. I'm envisioning this car not to have wheels, because of my story that will go along with this.

BASIC STORY:

A revolutionary psychologist uses unconventional means to help his patients. He employs the use of a mind integration machine (virtual reality) and accompanies them on a path to learn more about them and to help them. He leads them on a journey in his Lancia, which is his own mental construct.

But why use a car in a mental journey? Cars are familiar to most, if not all people. Even the mental construct of a car can be a comforting image in an unstable mind. It establishes a familial point in a person's head and fits very well of the notion of taking a drive through a persons memories and psyche.

75. Transformers Animated Combaticons

All of their bios are here! Written by Naboru-narluin and beta'ed by Ultharkitty, both on Livejournal!

Inspirations
I did not draw alt modes because I was inspired directly by real-life vehicles, but
my inspirations are below! Not exact, because paint jobs are slightly different, but
it should give you a general idea about their looks.

52. Autonomous Vehicle Sketch Blitz

This was a 50 count sketch blitz for my Design Communications class taught by Raphael Zammit.

I'll post later about the car, but basically my project this quarter is to design an interior and exterior for an autonomous 2-3 seater city vehicle. Since my project prompt stated that in a couple of years, the safety laws have changed dramatically to the positive response of new electric autonomous vehicle. Basically what that means is that I can change drastically the aesthetics of a car, make it smaller, with more economic use of space.

What would a car look like if it didn't need a steering wheel, seat belts, an IP, or a dash? If it was proven that autonomous vehicles were consistently safe, what could I take out, and how could I make the interior more conducive to everyday life? Maybe work on the go?

Sounds like a challenge, but definitely a fun challenge. Cheers!

Also saw the new Cars 2 trailer today. HOT.

42. Sketch Blitz #2

Top image are some final directions for my city cars, and the bottom two are both luxury sedans, although one might be changed into a sport coupe, just depends on how we're feeling. :) I was going to try to get maybe a one-person personal commuter, however, none of the options were really jiving... ^^ Final concepts should be up soon.

41. Sketch Blitz #1

Our assignment for descom was to do 50 sketches of vehicles, and since I hadn't drawn cars in a bit, I think they turned out relatively well. I promise in my next sketch blitz that some of the cars will tilt. XD I seem to have a tough time enough as it is trying to get some semblance of proportion.

The top two pics are supposed to be energy efficient, small electric cars, with the top most sketch being more environmentally friendly with a smaller footprint. The middle pages of cars are to hold about 2-4 people while the top picture probably will only carry 1-2 people. The bottom picture is a luxury car compilation. We're supposed to pick three different vehicle types and these are the ones that I'll be refining in the next week or so.

Squib Custom

Custom I made back in Cali. It was a lot of fun to do, and I'm really proud about how it looks!

Think of it like Borg mixed with a little steampunk and with a slight sprinkling of Tron. :)

It's a custom of my friends little operation at Squid Kids Ink more specifically the DIY Squib Kid.

It was a lot of fun, and if you're feeling up to the challenge, why not get one and dress it up yourself? If it's awesome, which they will be, they'll more than likely put it up on their Blog.

Hearts out to Nate, Linda, and Chito!

Bot Con 2009 Shockwave Costume

Kids... So cute!

And here are some stills.

This was definitely one of the funnest projects that I've ever done. :)

I almost forgot to upload this little diddy...

During my first part of my internship with Spin Master, I found out that Botcon would be at the Pasadena Convention center in California. I was definitely going to go, but with the help of my friend Chito, we decided to go a little further and actually make a costume.

It took about 80-100 hours of our spare time and three weeks, but in the end, we couldn't ask for anything better. A couple sheets of foam core, three bags of hot glue, and two cans of spray paint. For a first time costume for both me and him, it was a testament to what we could do if we tried hard enough.

Besides... it was fun as hell.

We didn't get to actually go into Botcon, but all the adults to recognized us (and the little kids, how do they know about G1?), it was worth it.

I hope I get to do it again sometime :)
